Appointment of new Head Coach
We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of a New Head Coach at I-Tri, renowned Canadian professional triathlete Jasper Blake. Jasper is well known in the international triathlon community and has years of experience as a top Ironman competitor and coach. Jasper will join the coaching staff of I-Tri April 1st taking over from long-time head coach, Thalia Castillo. Welcome to the I-Tri family Jasper!
New program options for the spring/summer session!
We’re pleased to offer three new program options for the upcoming spring/summer season at Island Triathlon. New this year is a swim only program, a run/bike only program and a beginner tri clinic program. Registration for is now open at Saanich Commonwealth Place. Register soon as pro-rating is not available on any program. Some programs are limited to number of participants.

Congratulations to core strength coach Sara Gross!
HUGE congratulations to coach Sara Gross for her unbelievable feat this past week. Sara finished 8th overall in the pro women’s division at Ironman Arizona and followed it up just one week later with a 6th place finish at Ironman Cozumel! She’s amazing! Well done Sara! Read her blog here.
Renowned swim coach Neil Harvey joins coaching staff!
Yes, you read correctly! Swim coach extraordinaire Neil Harvey has joined the swim coach staff of Island Triathlon. Neil has been Provincial Swim Coach of the Year on many occasions, coached 30 National Championships, coached triathletes at the 2004 Olympics, coached swimmers at the 1988 Olympics as well as being named CIAU Coach of the Year in 1988. Neil will be on deck every Tuesday helping I-Tri athletes perfect their swim techniques! We’re thrilled to have him join us!
New Season begins Tuesday, October 11, 2011
Welcome to the 2011-12 Island Triathlon season. Registration is ongoing at Saanich Commonwealth Place. Register soon as pro-rating is not available on any program.
An information session for ALL athletes is set for 5:45 pm, Tuesday, October 11th at Saanich Commonwealth Place (Pacific Dogwood Room). This first two weeks promise to be an interesting mix of workouts and special presentations from experts in sports nutrition, cycling, injury prevention, sports psychology, physiotherapy and swimming. We’ve also got an Olympic gold medalist thrown in the mix for some added fun!

Best of luck to Island Triathlon swim coach and professional triathlete Mike Neill at the 2012 Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawai,i on Saturday, October 8th. Mike is the lone male Canadian pro racing in his last Ironman. GO MIKE GO!!
We’re also sending our best wishes to honourary I-Tri alum Aussie Meg Gillmer as she takes on her first full Ironman at Kona! Meg qualified at the Philippines 70.3 only 7 short weeks ago! GO MEG!!!!!
